Activiti is an open source Business Process Management (BPM) engine created by the same engineers who originally created JBoss jBPM. Activiti is the same workflow engine embedded within Alfresco to implement its advanced workflow functionality. But you can also use Activiti as a standalone workflow engine, either embedded in your Java applications or integrated via its REST API.
Activiti is BPMN 2.0 compliant which means that if you already have tools that create BPMN 2.0 diagrams they’ll work with Activiti. Or you can always use the Activiti Designer, an Eclipse plug-in, to diagram your business processes.
